Voting procedure is otherwise the same.

And I noticed someone included me under the author category as well!

There are a lot of categories and a lot of books and ebooks included. It could mean a lot of new readers if we place well, not just for me, but for all the other fabulous writers at Dark Roast Press (look for them in all of the categories).

The voting runs through January 14th. Spoiled and arrogant, Elias thinks only of his upcoming twenty-fifth birthday and his only desired gift, a Servant of his very own.

When he spots Jared Karan, he knows exactly what he wants, but Jared is owned by another, a powerful British Lord with a reputation as a ruthless and unforgiving man, in business and in personal matters.

Elias gets what he wants through his father’s political and business maneuvering, and Jared is his. But Lord Stuart isn’t content with his defeat, and he uses his own power and influence to give Elias a gift, one that on the surface seems legitimate, but hides a very dark secret.

With a powerful enemy and a political climate that is more than a little volatile, falling in love with Jared could lead them both to destruction.

If you bought the book, thank you, from the bottom of my heart. If you enjoyed it, I would ask you to consider reviewing the book, either in your own journal or on the Dark Roast site. Good reviews sell more books, you know? Also? It increases the number of hits the book title gets on the search engines.

Oh, and I'm now on Facebook too: <a href="http://www.facebook.com/people/JC_Natal/1297790429" title="J.C.
Rysykk's Rise - An Excerpt

I thought I'd whet your appetite for the coming release (just a few hours now) with another excerpt. This takes place about 2/3 of the way through the book...

A low slung police car was cruising slowly down the street, headed his way. He cursed under his breath and tried to look as if he belonged there. The last thing he needed was for Maleus to have to come and bail him out.

Sure enough, the car slowed as it approached him and a window came down. “You’re a little out of place down here, aren’t you?” a voice asked, and Alarin stopped. The voice was vaguely familiar.
“I’m just visiting my old stomping grounds. And on my way home.” He tried to see into the car from his position but couldn’t. Cautiously he stepped closer. He didn’t need to be seen socializing with cops either, not when he’d just spent a few hours recruiting thugs for very illegal operations.

“Alarin?”

“Pallin?”

The car door opened and a sharp-suited uniform stepped out. Alarin wouldn’t have recognized him without the voice. Gone was the gawky teenager and in his place a well built and handsome man had developed. On the other side of the car a female officer emerged.

After an awkward moment, Alarin held out a hand to his friend. “It’s been a long time.”

“I’ve been looking for you.”

“I don’t live around here anymore.”

“Word on the street was that you were dead, jumped or something.”

Alarin grinned. “Yeah, a pick gone bad. I was pretty messed up. But, still alive.”

“And looking good. Those look to be expensive clothes. Or they were.”

“You have no idea. My wardrobe alone would have fed us for years.” He laughed, then looked around them uneasily. “I’m not a hundred percent yet, but I’m getting there. And I’m being well taken care of.”

Pallin nodded, and looked him over. “You look beat. Want a ride wherever it is you’re heading?”
Alarin wasn’t sure about that. He had never trusted cops, and even if Pallin had been his best friend, he was now a cop. And there was the matter of how it would look to his new “friends”. Pallin seemed to sense his reluctance and grinned.

“I’ll make it look like we’re arresting you, if that helps.”

Alarin grinned too. “Well, if you put it that way.”

They playacted roughly until Alarin was in the backseat of the car, and he laughed loudly as soon as the windows were back in place. “Alarin, this is my partner Melina. Melina, the infamous Alarin.”

She smiled in the mirror at him. “Nice to finally meet you, Alarin. He tells the most outrageous stories about you. Where are we headed?”

“Jefferson and Pine.”

“Isn’t that where the fire was earlier today?” Pallin asked.

“Yeah, near to.”

“Gonna tell me what you’re doing down here?”

Alarin grinned. “Nope.”

“Is it illegal?”

“Not exactly.” At least the part where he was looking for someone. What came after he found the bastard? Well, better not to quibble about that now.

Pallin shook his head. “Am I gonna find you dead in my gutters?”

“Not if I can help it. I’m just looking for someone, Pallin. No big deal.”

Pallin didn’t seem convinced, but was distracted as they pulled up in front of the building. The old sign over the security doors bore Maleus’ name. “You live here?”

Alarin nodded as he moved to the door. As Pallin opened it Alarin smiled. “Things change, my friend.”

“How do you know Bryant?”

“He saved my life one day not too long ago. I work for him now.” For some reason he wasn’t ready to tell him that he was Maleus’ fuck toy. Pallin probably suspected but only squinted in his direction.

“I’ve heard some rumors about him.”

Alarin forced himself to smile. “Yeah, I know ... all kinds of them; he eats babies for breakfast, he’s a Romanian prince, he’s a Rysykk, he’s a ladies man, he’s a cad, he’s got a dick the size of legends ... you know, all the usual.” His heart was pounding, but he kept his tone flippant and it made Pallin smile. “I should go. I have got a lot to do tomorrow, and it’s a long trip upstairs. I need a shower and probably a trip to the infirmary to get my leg looked at. It was great to see you again.”

“Yeah; you, too. You should get that face looked at, too. Whoever hit you left a mark.”
Alarin nodded, his hand rising to touch the bruise he could tell was there. Pallin drew him into a hug, squeezing tight, and both friends lingered for a moment before Alarin made his move to pull away. As he had expected, in the time he’d been wandering the streets, Maleus had had the security room cleaned, the desk replaced and a guard stationed. The guard greeted Alarin and waved him on through to the elevators.

He didn’t even make it to his floor; the elevator stopped on the infirmary floor, and as the doors opened, two nurses greeted him and escorted him out of the elevator and into a wheelchair. He didn’t protest as they took him to a room and helped him onto a bed. One stayed with him while the other disappeared. Within seconds, Alarin was dozing off; the excitement and activity of the day had drained him more than he would like to admit.

He woke with a start as the door opened, surprised to find that he was clean, in fresh linen pajamas, his leg tightly wrapped and his chest bandaged. Maleus was coming across the room, his face fierce. “I don’t know what I was thinking, letting you go off like that.” It sounded awfully close to an apology.

“I was fine, Maleus,” Alarin said, sitting up.

“No, you weren’t. I should have made you come back here and be seen first. The fight, the fire, the desk. Hell, I shouldn’t have let you go at all.” A small smile softened his expression momentarily. He finished crossing to the bed. “You have a concussion. You need rest. And you are not to go off alone like that. Not while that bastard’s gunning for you.”

He sat on the bed beside Alarin, brushing the back of his hand along his cheek. “You should see the bruise you have here.” Maleus made a face, then his hand slipped down onto Alarin’s chest.

Oddly, Alarin’s mind jumped to the last time Maleus had touched his chest, and the sucking. His cock twitched against Maleus’ elbow. Maleus raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. “Are you that easy?” he asked with a smile.

“Only for you, Maleus,” Alarin responded. Maleus kissed him then, a soft, wet kiss that made his lips tingle. As the kiss deepened, Maleus moved so that he was straddling Alarin, slowly moving his arms up over his head and pinning him there while his tongue and lips caressed Alarin’s mouth.

Alarin’s cock had responded, and pressed along Maleus’ ass. One hand released Alarin’s wrists and moved behind him to stroke along Alarin’s dick, while the other pulled Alarin’s left hand up to his mouth. In slow movements he licked the inside of Alarin’s wrist, slow, soft strokes that matched the stroking of the hand on his cock. Then Maleus closed his lips over the skin and sucked lightly at it, still in rhythm with his stroking.

Alarin’s eyes rolled back and his breathing became quick and shallow, as Maleus added teeth, scratching them over the skin, then licking, then sucking. Alarin was moving his hips, trying to quicken his pace, and Maleus responded by pulling his hand away from his dick and capturing his other hand. The only friction left to Alarin was rubbing his dick on Maleus’ pants, while Maleus turned his mouth to the second wrist. The harder his teeth moved on Alarin’s skin, the more noise escaped Alarin’s mouth.

Alarin tried hard to press himself against Maleus as he moved his body, seeking release, but Maleus’ position had made that difficult, and Alarin was starting to feel desperate. The feeling of Maleus’ mouth pushed him closer and closer, and Alarin knew that if he bit, if he drank, Alarin would climax without even a hand on his cock. That thought once would have frightened him. Now, somehow, it only excited him more.

“Please, Maleus,” he moaned, as the torment grew.

“Please, what, Alarin?” Alarin lifted his eyes to where his lips moved over Alarin’s skin, groaning.

Alarin closed his eyes again, lost in the sensation. No matter how much he wanted it, he wasn’t sure he could say those words, ask for what he wanted ... how he wanted it. “Please.”

“Tell me what you want, Alarin.”

He could feel it building, boiling. “Want to come.” He was panting, pressing up with his hips against the weight of Maleus as he sat there, his tongue slipping across moist skin, those teeth just grazing the surface ... the lips caressing away the pain. “Please ... bite me, Maleus ... Please ... let me come.”

The lips closed over his right wrist, at first just kissing, sucking ... then that sharp feeling as teeth broke through skin and his blood, hell, his whole body came rushing to the surface. His back arched up, his voice a strangled yell mixed with a moan. Then his body was collapsing back to the bed, relaxed, spent, exhausted.

Maleus slowly pulled his lips up away from the small wound he had made, covering it with his thumb to stop the bleeding as he leaned down to kiss Alarin. He tasted like blood, and the warm, sensual taste of Maleus after sex. “I am sorry I sent you away like that,” Maleus whispered in his ear. “From now on you are to immediately seek medical assistance whenever you are injured, before you follow any other orders.”

Maleus sat up and Alarin opened his mouth to argue. “No. My orders. You do as I say, remember?”

Alarin nodded slowly. “Yes, sir. I remember.”

Rysykk's Rise - A New Beginning

So, after much ado, I think I'm ready to show you the new cover, and offer you a small snippet.

Isn't he just yummy?

So...now to the idea of offering you a little excerpt. The question is...which bit do I give you?

"Forgive the lack of light. I'm afraid my eyes are sensitive." The voice was slightly accented, gentle, compelling.

"No problem. I come from the dark levels." Alarin responded reflexively, and he sensed, rather than saw, the smile.

"I recall. I trust you are feeling better?”

"Yeah ... you know ... thank you. I can’t pay you for this."

The shadows seemed to shift as Maleus moved forward in his chair. "There is nothing to repay. It was my pleasure."

Something about the way he said "pleasure" put images in Alarin's mind about things other than rescuing teenagers from certain death. He imagined he could feel the other man's eyes raking across his body. So that’s what it was going to be. He could handle that. He moved closer to get a better look. If he was going to have to entertain the man, might as well know what he’d gotten himself into.

"Please, sit down. We have much to discuss."

Alarin nodded and slid onto the chair closest to the stranger. From this spot he could see better into the shadows that cloaked him.

Well over 6 foot tall, Maleus Bryant was broad in the shoulder, but not in a brutish way. His dark hair was long, disappearing behind him and blending with the chair and the black of the finely tailored shirt. Long legs were crossed almost delicately and just a hint of what maybe lay between them was visible in the bunching of the fine fabric.

"Discuss what?" Alarin asked, his eyes rising to meet the older man's. Those dark eyes held the night in them, and Alarin blanched, dropping his eyes.

"An offer." Maleus looked bemused. "For you to stay.”

Alarin raised an eyebrow at that, but otherwise didn't respond. Staying wasn’t something he’d expected. He figured a blow job, maybe some heavy fucking, maybe something kinkier than that and then he’d be back on the streets.

"I have a bit of confession to make, Alarin. I've been watching you." Maleus had eyes that were icy cold, and they were trained on Alarin intently. It was disconcerting.

"Why?" His mouth was dry, his stomach turning as the fear of his nightmares bubbled inside him.

"Several months ago while I was running an errand, I observed you, not far from where I found you that night. You were ... working. I found I was attracted. I've been watching you ever since. The night of the beating, I was actually looking for you. I was going to make you an offer."

“Working?” That stretch of road was only good for two things, picking a specific target and taking tricks. A few months before he’d been sucking off johns to pay back a debt before it got his legs broken.

Maleus smiled vaguely. “Yes. In fact, I sent my driver to test you. His report was that you were quite talented, if not the most eager.”

Alarin licked his lips and tried to still the hammering of his heart. It wasn’t his favorite way of making a living, but it was fast and got him cash ... or drugs he could turn into cash. "What’s your offer?"

"You stay here, live with me. You will have anything you desire; food, clothing, books, an education, money. You never have to go back to the streets.”

Alarin stared, uncertain he’d heard. No one made offers like that to people like him. Especially no one like Maleus Bryant. "And what do you get from that?"

Maleus really did smile then. Alarin got a glimpse of white teeth. "That's simple. I get you." He sat back again and crossed his arms. "You become mine. You will please me. Beyond that, I'll give you jobs that suit your talents."

“You think I’m some kind of whore you can buy like that?” Alarin asked, his voice slightly hostile. Not like he wasn’t ... but he didn’t know this guy ... and truthfully, there was something terrifying about him.

“Perhaps I am mistaken?” Alarin couldn’t see his face, couldn’t work out the tone in his voice. He was suddenly even more afraid he’d blown something ... and it was something that could change his life. “I don’t care what you were before. Alarin, I am offering you a life of leisure, and pleasure. You will live here, attend classes, learn to hone your body. You will have access to fresh food, not recycled protein paste. Doctors, servants, clothes made specifically for you.”

“And all I have to do in return is let you fuck me?” It didn’t add up. Why had Bryant chosen him?

Maleus smiled again. “I’m a little more imaginative than that, I’m afraid. My tastes include that, of course.” He shifted forward. “Let us be perfectly clear. You will belong to me. No one will touch you but me, unless I give permission. Your body will be mine and you will do as you are told. This will include sexual activities, as well as other things that bring me pleasure.”

“So, not just a whore ... you want a slave.” He should be afraid; he knew enough to know that.

“Such a soft slavery,” Maleus countered. “But not far from the truth. You will always be free to leave, but if you stay, you will obey.”

Alarin considered the options. He could go back to hustling on the street, doing the occasional trick when he was desperate, living in a flop hole or trash pile, never sure he’d survive the night. Or he could stay here where things were white and gleaming and clean. Where he could eat real food – without scrounging it out of dumpsters, or stealing it from other desperate people.

“Can I ask a question?”

“Of course, Alarin. This is a business negotiation, after all. Both parties should understand the terms.”

Alarin squinted at him, wishing he could get a better read on the guy. He was powerful, handsome. Alarin doubted there was much of anyone he couldn’t have with the snap of a finger. “Why me?” Alarin shifted uncomfortably, his lower back stiff. “I mean, you could have trained whores ... you could have anything you wanted.”

“Yes. I can have anything I want, Alarin. And I want you.”

And that right there was the part Alarin was sure should be terrifying. He was less terrified than he was intrigued. Even if Maleus was into something kinky, something beyond blow jobs and anal sex, there wasn’t a single part of him that could condone walking away from food and a safe place to stay. That alone was worth the price Maleus was asking.

“But why?”

Maleus stood for the first time, and Alarin’s mind filled with the swirling black of his coat, the splash of blood on his face. Maleus walked away, toward the bookshelves. “It has been a long time since I let a pretty face persuade me.” Maleus kept his back to Alarin, so he didn’t catch the look of disbelief on his face. “When I first saw you, you reminded me of someone. That is why I want you.”

Alarin pulled his hair back out of his face and took a deep breath. He didn’t really see a choice in this. If he left now, he wouldn’t survive on the streets, not when he couldn’t move. He nodded slowly. "Okay, I'll stay."

Maleus turned back to face him. "Be sure about this, boy. Once you agree to this, your only options are obedience or leaving. I am not hard to please, but my notions of pleasure are far ranging. I will demand things of you that you have never dreamed of. But if you please me, I will give you the world."

Alarin rose slowly and crossed the small distance between them. A brief image of the towering Rysykk filled his mind, but he filed it away as a figment of his imagination, as he sank to one knee in front of the man who would become his master, angling the splinted leg to the side, and set his hands on Bryant’s thighs. Slowly his hands slipped up the rich fabric toward the zipper of his pants. He met those dark eyes one more time; then Alarin moved aside the sides of the zipper, before bending his head and taking Maleus into his mouth.

If nothing else, his time on the streets had taught him to give good head.

Maleus didn’t move, only braced himself on the desk behind him and let Alarin lick over his cock. Normally when Alarin resorted to tricking, he was pretty desperate, and he liked to make it fast, get the guy off and get the cash. This was different. He had to make sure Bryant still wanted him to stay when he was done.

He didn’t dare look up, concentrated on the cock that swelled to full size on his tongue. Bryant was not the largest he’d ever touched, but he was sizeable. Alarin opened his mouth and sucked on the tip briefly, then pulled back to angle his head to kiss down the side. He thought he heard a groan when he licked over Bryant’s balls, but it was gone before it fully registered. He ran his tongue under and up to the tip, then opened his mouth. He took half the cock into his mouth and hummed as he slid it back out, his tongue cupped against it. Then down again, until he could feel the tip in the back of his throat.

Bryant fisted a hand in his hair then, holding his head while Alarin bobbed up and down, increasing his pace, taking him deep. Bryant’s hips pressed forward and Alarin bent back slightly to take the thrust; then he was swallowing frantically as Bryant came.

Alarin was released and Bryant walked away, pressing a button on his desk. Alarin struggled to his feet, wiping his face. There was a vague smile on Bryant’s lips. “I’ll have Hennings show you to your rooms. I hope they are to your liking.”

He guessed that meant he could stay. “Yeah, okay.”

http://www.darkroastpress.com/

And no, it isn't the one you're looking for.

Due to...circumstances beyond my control, and probably beyond the control of folks a lot more in control than me, Aphrodites Apples has closed its doors.

Which means the postponement of the release of "Rysykk's Rise".

However, I have high hopes that a month or so from now, you'll be able to buy it from a new e-publisher.

So...stay tuned.

    <lj:music>If You're Gone - Matchbox 20</lj:music>

This is exciting. My first e-book release is right around the corner.

And, to whet your appetite, here's the blurb:

Alarin is a skid living in the dark and dangerous underside of Washington-America, where the sun can no longer be seen through the buildings and streets of the upper levels. He’s a pickpocket and a thief, and sometimes a whore when he’s hungry enough, until the night he picks the wrong pocket and falls victim to a vicious beating.

A mysterious benefactor whisks Alarin away from the mean streets and offers him a life of luxury, ninety floors in the sky…but who exactly is Maleus Bryant and why does he want Alarin when he could have his choice of companion? What is it he knows that Alarin doesn’t?

Adding to Alarin’s discomfort is the image in his mind of a killer with blood on his face, a Rysykk, rising out of the black of night and the legends of old to fill Alarin with fear. Could Maleus be a Rysykk, hiding in plain sight?

Even if he is, can Alarin turn his back on shelter and food and a life he’d never dreamed of, or will he stay, knowingly a Rysykk’s private whore?

The release date is the 14th of February (or possibly the 19th, there have been communication issues). The book is being published by Aprodites Apples, though it isn't listed yet. They seem to not have a "Coming Soon" Section.

More to come!
